With only five weeks left in the semester, most students are beginning to prepare for finals and papers that will be due at the end of the semester. So when is there time to relax and have fun and who will have time to organize such events? There’s no need to worry because Campus Activities Board has it all planned out.
C.A.B. is a campus club that hopes to “plan and implement campus activities and events.” All advertising is provided by the club, and there is a limit of 30 students allowed to participate on the committee, but as of this academic year, there are 25 members currently involved with the group. Applications are required to be submitted, followed by an interview with the club officers and advisor, Joyce Rea. If accepted, the potential member is issued an invitation to join and as a benefit, all members attend most C.A.B. events for free. The club also pays for more than half of the ticket cost for students that attend C.A.B. events, and it sponsors 18 to 20 events a semester. There will be many fun opportunities ahead before the beginning of Christmas break, such as the grand finale for CSU Idol, roller skating, the Miss CSU pageant, and game night in the Brewer Center, and everyone is encouraged to participate.
“Their mission is to get every student on campus involved in an activity,” said Rea.
Toree Wilson is a senior and this is her first year as CAB president. “We’re a benefit not only to the school, but also to the community,” she said. “We do community service activities to keep students busy in a Christian environment on campus, as well as off.”
CAB will be hosting Turkey Outreach, a campuswide community service for Lowcountry families who cannot afford Thanksgiving dinners and is asking students to please donate any nonperishable Thanksgiving food items. Students may drop them off with Rea until November 18, and if anyone is interested in delivering meals on November 21 and 22, please contact Rea for further details.
