Miracle House Inspires CSU Fraternity

Members of Lambda Tau Chi knew they wanted to make an impact by serving the community, but they didn’t know how strong of an impression that a place like the Parker Miracle House would leave on them nor could they predict their developing passion for helping others. After meeting with founder Larry Parker at an auction last fall, the members of Lambda Tau Chi immediately decided to become a part of the Parker Miracle House organization.

As a leukemia survivor, Parker and his family understand the hardships that accompany the disease and established the House as a place where leukemia patients and their families could board at no cost within range of a hospital for frequent treatments.

Trey Oakley is the president of Lambda Tau Chi and believes that the fraternity’s involvement with the Miracle House has made him realize the impact that this association has on not only its residents but the volunteers and advocates of the cause as well.

“After meeting Mr. Parker and listening to the speech he gave with such enthusiasm, love and devotion, and meeting people that the Miracle House had touched, we realized that we had found our philanthropy,” said Oakley.

“We all know how expensive a hotel room can be, but try having to pay weeks at a time,” said Oakley. “Transplant patients often have to stay close to a hospital for 100 days! Could you imagine that bill? This is why I feel that this house is truly a miracle, and I know that in our fraternity, all of our guys will stand behind that.”

Hoping to inform other individuals about the importance of the House, the brothers provided literature and emphasized the significance of the cause from a booth outside of a basketball game on campus. “I think the event went well; we accomplished our objective in getting the word out,” said Oakley. We would do it again, but hopefully much larger and take in donations for the charity.”

But the ability to take part in an event that could influence others to make an impact on someone else’s life through the House was well worth the effort for the members of Lambda Tau Chi.

“The Parker Miracle House has made a large impact on me,” said Oakley. “It is so touching to see someone who has defeated a disease turn around and continue to help other people do the same. Personally, I would not be able to understand how this cause could not touch someone. By helping however we can, whether it be cleaning, cooking, or raising money it is an amazing feeling to know that you are doing whatever you can to better someone’s life.” The fraternity also plans to host an Oyster Roast in March to benefit the cause.

“This House is a truly wonderful cause and this was not just a one-time deal,” said Oakley. “We plan to do many things to help the people of the Parker Miracle house in any way that we can.”

I try desperately to have sponsors for our monthly blood drives on campus. Do you think
Lambda Tau Chi could sponsor one? Thank you so much.
