The Future Teachers’ Society completed a service learning project to celebrate literacy.
The Easter Literacy Bucket project provided more than 30 specially designed plastic containers filled with reading, writing and creative arts materials for children in need. Buckets were filled with children’s story books, crayons, paint, paper, coloring books, puzzles and other learning materials.
The buckets were given to the Dorchester Children’s Center, which serves as an advocacy center for children who have been abused or neglected.
Dr. Linda Karges-Bone, faculty advisor to the group said, “Our future teachers are committed to service and to learning. They know that every child needs his or her own books, writing materials and art supplies in order to satisfy learning and creative needs and that is not a small thing for a needy, at risk child.”
