What is this about a Salt Water Pool at CSU?
With the fall semester in full swing the life of a college student can get a little hectic. What better way to relax and take a break than by taking a swim in our campus pool?
Not only can you relax but you can also enjoy the last of the warm Charleston weather before fall takes over. Whether you are a returning student or new to our campus, you may have noticed something different about the water in our swimming pool.
This year the pool has been upgraded from the traditional chlorine water to salt water. CSU strives to stay current on new technology to provide better quality for our students. While some may think of salt water and think about the ocean, it’s not quite the same thing.
Salt water pools are actually only a fraction as salty as the ocean. In a salt water pool salt is added at the source of the water where it reacts with electricity to produce pure chlorine. What does this mean for those who swim in it? No more red eyes, itchy skin or chlorine-washed bathing suits.
If you haven’t already, check it out and see how you like the difference. The pool is still open Monday- Saturday 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The closing date for the fall has not been decided yet, so get out there while you can.

Printing on Campus 101- Just so you know…
This is an attempt to help everyone better understand the where’s and whys of printing things on campus. Did you know that every new academic year each student is granted $11.25 worth of printing credit? Who knew? So maybe you did know. It is clearly stated in the CSU Student Handbook, but maybe, like many, you missed that page.
Now that we have established how much you have to spend, let’s talk about how you spend it.
The Library is, in most opinion, is the best place to go for printing. There are several options:
All of the computers downstairs have Microsoft for creating and printing Word Documents etc., now, (Last year it was only a handful) and all of them are hooked up to the printers under the stairs. They are all pretty reliably hooked up and connected to the web, making research a snap.
Upstairs is the BILT center. This is a great computer lab. It’s quiet and has plenty of computers loaded with all needed programs. They are also hooked up to printers there in the room.
On these, you can choose to print in color for $0.25 a page or black and white for $0.05 a page. The most important step is to KNOW YOUR STUDENT ID AND PIN. When you go to print, you will have to enter this in order to access your $11.25. When you enter those numbers, your print job will be sent to the printer. Be sure to change the printer if you want to produce a color document.
So if you are only printing black and white that should give you 225 pages. When you run out you can simply stop by the CSU Bookstore and purchase a print card for $5.00, and you are back in business.
Computer Labs are located around the campus too. The above outlined printing process works the same way there, but often there is not the option to print in color. Click here for hours and locations on campus
Last but not least are the new WEPA (Wireless Everywhere Print Anywhere) Kiosks that were installed last year. These kiosks are great when you are in a bind to print quickly. The kiosks are located in Littlejohn Parlor and in the library. There are three easy print options that are outlined here on the library webpage. The WEPA prints cost $0.09 for each black and white page and $0.49 for each color page.
