Remembrance Events
Unity is the theme for the Charleston Southern MLK event. Martin Luther King, with his commitment to end racial segregation and discrimination through nonviolent means, would agree with such a theme. Our school will be hosting a Candle Light Vigil around the Reflection Pond on Monday, January 16 from 5-5:45 pm to honor our fallen warrior for Christ. Please stop by to pay your respects to his memory and unite with others of like minds who desire to see unity of all kinds. The Annual MLK Holiday Parade will also be on Monday Jan. 16th. It begins at 11am in front of Burke High School. It will run from Fishburne Street to Ashley Avenue then to Sumter Street and King Street and ends at Marion Square. Another way to pay tribute is to donate to an MLK book drive....
Basketball in the Buc Dome…”Pack the House Night” this Saturday
The Buc Dome is getting alot of action from our basketball teams right now. It’s the student bodies job to go out and support our teams of all kinds. Below are some upcoming home games for Men’s and Women’s Basketball. Wednesday, January 12th @7:30pm men vs PC Saturday, January 14th @ 2:00pm women vs Radford. This is our NCAA ” Pack the House Night”. In an effort to highlight women’s basketball the NCAA started “pack the house nights” to get more people out to enjoy and support the sport. Charleston Men’s Chorus Awards Music Scholarships
Using proceeds from its annual concerts, the Charleston Men’s Chorus awards a total of $10,000 in music scholarships each year to students pursuing a degree in vocal music or choral conducting at Charleston Southern University and the College of Charleston. Two students from Charleston Southern received scholarships. Aaron Cates of Charleston (below right) is a sophomore majoring in music education with a choral emphasis. Cates is a tenor in the Singing Buccaneers and Concert Singers and recently joined the Palmetto Vocal Project, an acapella men’s barbershop group in Mount Pleasant. Cates plans on looking for a job as a choir director for a few years, attending graduate school to obtain his master’s degree in choral conducting and...
Charleston Southern packing Operation Christmas Child Shoebox
The Charleston Southern University family will host a Packing Party for Operation Christmas Child Thursday, Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. in the dining hall and Charleston Room of the Strom Thurmond Center during Elevate, the University’s weekly campus worship experience. Because the national collection week was the third week in November, Charleston Southern’s Dec. 1 Packing Party is the Charleston community’s last chance to participate in this year’s gift-giving project for children around the world. Lattes and Literature: A Reading of Creative Writing
Thursday, Nov 17th from 3-4 in Java City Sefer, CSU’s Literary Magazine, hosted a time to share to share the art of the written word. Students and faculty were invited to join in reading their creative writing during this specail hour at Java City. It was an hour of laughs, tears and reflection as they shared from theie hearts and amazingly creative minds.
